It’s All About You, Babe . . .
Love is chemical. But, there’s the unfortunate intrusion of conciousness and thought that make human relationships, or homo sapiens compoundus, a cleverly meaningless term I coined just for this article, more complex than that of a pair of Canadian Geese who mate for life.
The ability to observe, collect information, grow experience and make decisions is a hallmark of our species. The cognition that’s evolved over millions of years also carries with it the foil to a purely chemical romance.
We now know, quite scientifically-like, that love is not the high-lying concept of a highly-evolved species but has certain predictable trigger and indicators that can be observed and measured, also scientifically. -est. -ness. Two humans (let’s keep it simple for now) observe each other and look at specific features – body shape, body language: indications that the potential mate is suitable for mating and subsequent child rearing gleaned from millions of years of evolutionary experience. Odor, in the form of pheromone release and the presence or absence of other scents not consciously identifiable by the participants
If love is chemical, then why isn’t hate?
Unfortunately, the brain can learn, by repeated stimulation in a particular way, and create a neural pathway
